I'm not sure what this plant is
the flower is less that 1cm in diameter

Looks like a tiny rosebud to me but at 1cm, it's too small for that.
Very pretty image whatever it is. Nice color too.

Magnificent shot Ian! (v) I think its most probably a begonia, but hard to tell
without seeing the leaves and a bud.

One of our pbase botanists will surely identify this for you. Photographically speaking, I think you've made a fine image: delicate red, good definition of the petals and a lovely soft-focus background.
