One of my standing rules has always been to never stay overnight where "Bates" is involved.

I found a shadow of a knife and hand on the net
Used a projector in the office I was using and projected the image onto
a very large piece of paper ( AO) or larger..
traced the outline of the shadow cut it out and stuck card on the back

this have me an arm and knife shape to use which I could manoeuvred about
to create the right shadow effect

Just working out how you did this....
Going around a hotel car park with a butcher knife may get you into trouble, but...
as it's a very strong shadow, I wonder if you took the hotel puddle shot, went home, printed it out, and then took a photo of your shadow over the print.
Am I close?
