Yellow-browed Warbler

(phylloscopus inornatus)
The Yellow-browed Warbler is a scarce but regular autumn passage migrant in Scotland. It is the most regularly occuring of the scarce autumn migrants and can usually be found in the Northern Isles and along the east coast of Scotland in late September/early October. Its breeding grounds are mostly east of the Ural Mountains in the Siberian taiga and it winters in SE Asia. However, a small percentage seem to undertake a migration in completely the opposite direction and, following the 'great circle' line, migrate through northern Scandinavia, the UK and Iberia to winter somewhere in Africa. In recent years, the number of birds passing through Scotland and in particular through the northern isles has been exceptional.
