White-rumped Sandpiper

(calidris fuscicollis)
The White-rumped Sandpiper is a rare vagrant to Scotland though slightly more common than the very similar Baird's Sandpiper. There have been 68 records of the bird in Scotland. It is a North American breeding bird. The bird in these photographs was present for most of our stay on North Ronaldsay in the Orkney Islands where it was feeding along the muddy margin of the Gretchen Loch.
