White-billed Diver

(gavia adamsii) (Yellow-billed Diver/Loon)
The White-billed Diver is the biggest and rarest of the Diver family. In Scotland it is a rare winter visitor only rarely coming close enough to the shore to be seen from land.
In the winter of 2025/26 an exceptional wreck of White-billed Divers occurred in the North Sea following prolonged eastern storms. Many birds were found at scattered locations along the North Sea coast.
Even more exceptionally, the bird in this photograph was found on an inland fresh water loch, Loch Venachar in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs NP. It was always distant the day that I saw it..
