Twite

The Twite is a rather nondescript little finch which is easily overlooked. In winter it forms large restless flocks usually in low-lying or coastal locations such as the saltmarsh at the John Muir CP near Dunbar and at the Loch Lomond NNR. The flock is constantly on the move and makes a distinctive twittering noise which is usually the easiest way to determine that the flock is indeed Twite rather than the commoner Linnet or Siskin. Its summer breeding locations in Scotland are mostly in northern areas on low moorland and crofting localities.
