The Spotted Flycatcher is a summer migrant, usually one of the last to appear well into May. It is an unobtrusive bird which can easily be overlooked, especially since its call is weak and undistinguished. Its usual habitat is woods and woodland edges where it can be seen hunting from a favoured perch to which it will often return.
