In January 2016 I visited South Africa on a trip organised by Tropical Birding. This was a short set departure trip taking in some of the most important birding locations.
We started in the Cape Area with several days in the Cape Town, West Coast NP and False Bay areas before setting off to the east across the Algulhas Plains to the charming resort town of Wilderness. We then headed inland across the mountains via the Swartberg Pass to reach the Karoo NP. After a few days there we headed for the Tankwa Karoo and then drove back to Cape Town to pick up a flight to Johannesburg. After a pleasant morning at Marievale we headed for the upland grasslands of Wakkerstroom and its quite different environment. Our final destination was Kruger NP which was reached after a long drive from Wakkerstroom. Our last few days were spent in Kruger before heading back to Johannesburg for a flight home.
