In October 2016 I made another trip to Shetland, again in the company of Shetland Wildlife. We had an amazing week of weather with no rain, sunshine nearly all the time, a bit windy at first but then becoming calm. The birding was unusual with much fewer numbers of the common and regular migrants but with rarities and megas being found nearly every day. Frustratingly, the good weather meant that most birds which were found had moved on by the next morning.
The highlight of the trip was a mad dash on the last afternoon from the central mainland all the way to Skaw on Unst to see the White's Thrush. The Lanceolated Warbler at Boddam was a lifer for me and it showed ridiculously well, so close that you to be careful not to tread on it.
