Olive-backed Pipit

(anthus hodgsoni)
The Olive-backed Pipit is a rare vagrant to the Western Palearctic. It breeds in Siberia and winters in South East Asia. Most years one or two of these birds will turn up in the UK having migrated in the wrong direction. We were lucky to see this one in a private garden at Frakkafield near Lerwick. We could only view the edge of the garden from the adjoining field but fortunately the bird was wanting to come out to the field to feed.
