Lesser Whitethroat

The Lesser Whitethroat is a common bird through much of Europe but only just stretches into Scotland as a breeding bird. It is a summer visitor wintering in North East Africa. Normally it is quite a skulking bird and can be difficult to see but in the northern isles there are few places to hide. We found quite a lot of these birds on both Fair Isle and on Shetland, indeed after the Yellow-browed Warbler this was probably the commonest of the 'rare' migrants.
