Pectoral Sandpiper

The Pectoral Sandpiper is an American species which breeds in the high Arctic. It is the commonest American vagrant to the UK with most records being of juvenile birds in September and October. There are three sets of images here. The first is of a bird on the salt marsh with a rising tide at the John Muir Country Park, Tyninghame Bay, Lothian in September 2006. (I had accidently put my camera into an 'inappropriate' setting so some of these images are harshly editted.) The second set are of a bird at Balgray Reservoir which lies between Newton Mearns and Barrhead in East Renfrewshire, near Glasgow in September 2007. The third set is of a juvenile bird at Frankfield Loch in Glasgow. This bird was always rather distant and could only be digiscoped.
