Pallid Harrier

(circus macrourus)
The Pallid Harrier is a rare vagrant to Scotland. Up to 2004 only nine records had been accepted as per BS3 with possibly another three birds up to 2011. In the autumn of 2011 there was an unprecedented invasion of possibly four or five juvenile birds which first appeared in Shetland in August and gradually moved south with the last records being in November in Ayrshire and Benbecula. Its normal breeding rage lies from Ukraine through Kazakhstan and into NW China, wintering in Afica.
