Little Stint

(calidris minuta)
The Little Stint is a tiny wader, even smaller than a Dunlin. It is an uncommon passage migrant in both spring and autumn. The majority of birds which are found in Scotland are autumn juvenile/1st winter birds making their first migration from their breeding grounds in Scandinavia to winter in South and West Africa. I remember seeing a flock of about a thousand Little Stints in a coastal lagoon on a birding trip to South Africa.
