The Hoopoe is an occasional vagrant in Scotland, usually a spring migrant overshoot. Occasionally one of unknown origin will winter in Scotland and if conditions are not too severe it may survive.
The bird photographed here in February had presumably been present all winter. It was frequenting various private gardens in the village of Clynder on the Roseneath Peninsula on the west side of the Gare Loch.
