The Green Woodpecker is an uncommon and quite localised bird in Scotland. Within my home area of Clyde, the most reliable location for these birds is the south and western slopes of the Kilpatrick Hills. These photographs were taken on the Long Crags (or Lang Craigs) above Overtoun House, Dumbarton. In 2005 the birds had a remarkable brood of 5 young which for a few weeks could easily be located by the noisly squabbling. In 2006 the brood was of 2 young.
