Green-winged Teal

(anas carolinensis)
The Green-winged Teal is a North American species very closely related to our Eurasian Teal. In any year there are usually several records of this species not all of which will be genuine vagrants. Whilst the two species are very similar a drake of the American bird can be easily picked out in a flock by the vertical white bar across the side of the breast. Females are probably indistinguishable in the field.
