The Goldcrest is a truly dimunitive bird - the smallest bird in Europe. In Scotland it is a common resident usually associated with coniferous woodland or with evergreen trees and bushes in mixed woodland and parkland. It is quite a noisy bird but its call is so high pitched that some people cannot hear it. In cold winters the species can suffer a high mortality rate.
