Glossy Ibis

(plegadis falcinnellus)
The Glossy Ibis is a scarce vagrant in Scotland. Its normal range is in coastal locations in the Mediterranean and eastwards into Asia. The European population winters in Africa.
The first of my only two sighting was of this rather distant bird in a field between Doune and the Blair Drummond gravel pit ponds. Unfortunately, the bird was rather distant and unapproachable over the open field with the geese on guard duty! My second sighting was of a couple of birds from a flock of abou 10 birds which wre wandering around Shetland one autumn.
