(ploceus nigerrimus)
This is the West African ssp castaneofuscus which differs from the nominate species by having a chestnut-brown back, rump and belly. The nominate species is all black. It is usally found at forest edges, secondary growth and in villages often in colonies with Village Weavers.
We found a colony of nests overhanging the pools at Hans Cottage hotel. There were also Village Weavers and Orange Weavers nesting closeby.
