Wolverine

David Devonport and I spent a long day in a very cold hide waiting and hoping for White-tailed Eagles to come in the food provided but they did not show up. Fortunately the day was saved by the appearance of a WOLVERINE on the slope below us. If we had thought about it and held off taking photos the animal might have come in to the food and given us an unbelievable photo opportunity. As it was we were happy with the slightly distant shots which we got.
It is very uncommon to see a Wolverine out in the open in daylight. Most photographs of a Wolverine will have been obtained at a special hide stakeout location and never in my wildest dreams did I think I would ever see one of these animals. The population of Wolverine in Finland is estimated at between 150 and 170 individuals.
