A Capercaillie lek had been reported not far from Kuusamo town so we drove out there early one morning. It was the coldest morning of the whole trip with the van thermometer showing -28.5C just after sunrise. We found a couple of male Capercaillies but they were in poor light and quickly drifted away into the forest.
