Ephesus and adjacent sites

Leaving Pergamon we headed for Kusadasi and two night's stay in the huge Tusan Hotel. The next day we had a busy time visiting several sites in and around the modern town of Selcuk close to which are the ruins of the ancient city of Ephesus. This is one of the greatest ruined cities of the Mediterranean with the Celsus Library being the most iconic structure of all.
Our first stop at the ruins of the Temple of Artemis was rather uninspriring as very little remains of what was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. A pair of White Storks were nsting atop the one standing pillar of the temple. Our next visit was to the House of the Virgin Mary which lies high up on a hill top about 5 miles from Ephesus. This is a charming and peaceful spot, cool and shaded by big old trees. Next was Ephesus itself which did not disappoint and was fortunately not too busy. After lunch we headed for the twon of Selcuk and visited the Basilica of St John the Evangelist and the Ephesus Museum.
