(apus apus)
The (Common) Swift is a summer visitor to Scotland using arriving in late April. Its distinctive crescent shaped wings makes it stand out from the much more numerous swallows and martins. It is regularly present over the suburban areas of Glasgow and on a summer's evening its shrill screeching call can be heard overhead.
Being such a fast flier, it is a very difficult species to photograph.
