River Clyde Flood at Baron's Haugh

November 2009 was particularly wet and on the 19th the was a huge downpour. In Cumbria over 300mm of rain fell in 24 hours. The next day was bright and clear so I went for a walk through Dalzell Woods and down to the River Clyde at Carbarns. The river was huge, higher than I have ever seen it before. All of Carbarns Haugh was flooded, forming a huge lake with Merryton Haugh across the river. The Clyde Walkway was part of the river. I retraced my route back up through Dalzell Wood and headed down to Baron's Haugh - which had completely disappeared under water. The river had overflowed the embankment between the Centenary hide and the Chestnut Walk to such a depth that the Causeway hide was flooded to roof level.
