Bonaparte's Gull

(chroicocephalus philadelphia)
The Bonaparte's Gull, as its scientific name suggests, is a vagrant from North America. There are a few records annually in the UK, in Scotland there have been about 20 records so it is a rare vagrant.
The bird in these photographs was present in the Cardwell Bay area of Gourock on the lower Clyde for several weeks in the winter and spring of 2017.
