Black-necked Grebe

The Black-necked Grebe is a uncommon breeder in Scotland being found in only a few favoured sites but even these can suddenly be abandoned. It is more numerous in winter when individuals can be found in some estuaries. Unusually for winter, the bird photographed here was found in an inland location on the watersports loch at Strathclyde Country Park between Motherwell and Hamilton.
