The Blackbird is one of our commonest birds being found in gardens, parks, woodland and open countryside. It is well known from its habit of nest building in close proximity to houses and from its frequent appearance at garden bird feeders. It can often be heard on summer evenings singing for hours on end from a high perch, its song being one of the most melodious of all. In winter the numbers of resident birds is swelled by migrants escaping from the Scandinavian winter.
