The American Black Duck is a rarity in Scotland. The bird photographed here was the 15th record of this species in Scotland. It was photographed at the village of Strontian on Loch Sunart in the Scottish Highlands - the element strontium is named after Strontian. This bird has probably been present in Loch Sunart for a couple of years or perhaps has returned to this location. At low tide it was at the mouth of the river and could be seen by squelching across the salt marsh and mud flats from the car park in Strontian.
