Border Reivers Return 2007 - Hawick, Scotland

Aw can see the horses comin ower the rise
Shadows in the moonlight beneath the Border skies
Riding by the river, wading through the burn
Oo'll be hevin' plenty when the Reivers return

Words kindly permitted by George Inglis from the song The Reivers Return

In 1612 it was just another year for the Border Reivers to rape and pillage, burn and fight with either the English or the Scots, stealing from one for the other, depending on who was paying the highest price for cattle and sheep - women too.

In Hawick today these scenes of a triumphant return were re-enacted and followed by a day of music and celebration as another English castle 'lay burnin tae the gruund' or equally so, a Scottish farm lay in a smouldering heap as the spoils of war were shared amongst the good citizens of Hawick.'
