Lined With Gold

Forres, Moray, Scotland.

Dense pinewoods cover a large percentage of Scotland although they have been commercially planted for the sole purpose of harvest they are never-the-less a haven for red squirrel. During late winter afternoons the angle of sunlight is so low that it streams in beneath the tree canopy and paints the side of each tree with a line of golden light. The bonus of a thin covering of snow serves to act as a reflector to push additional light into the shadow sides and render texture.

I have so much Scottish blood running through my veins that every time I see one of your images and read what you have to say about it, I feel like you're taking me home. Thank you for that gift.
