Using Velvia film on a subject well within it's abilities to record it, is a pleasurable experience. The amount of crisp sharp detail and the subtle nuances of colour and texture picked up within the delicate shades of a limited colour palette is nothing short of a revelation. This old gnarled and muscular looking shoulder of a felled oak tree near Elgin had a very distinctive grain pattern and a few trapped autumn leaves had hitched themselves to the cracks and fissures in the wood creating a very simple and highly rewarding composition, somewhat greater than the sum of its parts.
