The slot canyons of Antelope in Page Arizona are truly breathtaking. A small crack or fissure in the sandstone rock a hundred feet or so above, opens up rapidly into water sculpted rock where underground streams over many thousands of years carve the most gorgeous patterns and sensuous shapes. Had this been the extent of what you'd see it would be a lovely site, but no, at mid day the same light that is so harsh above, bounces off the sandstone walls many times gradually turning redder and redder, softer and softer, the result is a luminosity of staggering proportions requiring tens of seconds of exposure time.
