Portknockie Dawn

Portknockie, Moray, Scotland.

A summer sunrise at Portknockie occurs before 5am. The colour lasted for just a few seconds and was gone as the rising sun was enveloped in cloud.

Hello Javier

For the record no HDR or blending of exposures this is pretty well exactly the same as the original transparency. It always is, because that is the way it pleases me to work, if I can't capture an image in one shot then (which is rare) then I don't bother at all. A two stop hard ND grad was used on the sky (not perfectly cos there is some indication of a grad line on the cliff top right side). There was no direct light at all, (shadowless) just the glow of ambient light from the sky directly above. Velvia handles these conditions quite beautifully.

Hi, congratulations first of all, but did you use a HDR techinique or similar?. The grass is fully illuminated while sun is almost hidden behind the cloud. The special atmosphere is due to the different light that you find and we are unable to recreate. I would be happy if you could elaborate more on this. Thanx

I know that very rock.I climbed on it or its neighbour when I was a young pup.My grannie was housekeeper to the local doctor in Portknockie many moons ago & my dad rented a house in the village for a month for our summer holidays for many years.
