I don't often choose to portray my images large but there is quite a lot going on in this one and I think it benefits from being a bit bigger than my normal upload. These amazing shards of rock stacks are on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis and are best photographed in the late afternoon before the cliffs throw a shadow across the nearer stacks. Although I took the image in colour I always had a black and white image in mind to play with texture, the rocks being sharp, craggy, angular and with the aid of a high value ND filter the sea being soft and aqueous playing around the stacks in swirling circles of foamy spray. Of course a stormy day makes everything that bit better but so does the inclusion of dappled sunlight to create depth.
