Dune Number 45

Sossusvlei, Namibia, Africa

Perhaps the most remarkable thing about this shot is not the massive dune itself but the fact that for about 1 minute there wasn't another sole trudging up to the summit. Clearly folk have taken a short cut at some time and decided on a rapid descent but fortunately the ever present wind ensures that the dune is quickly pristine again. Shortly after sun up the light manages to graze the front facing flank of the dune which reveals additional texture on its surface but maintains excellent contrast with the sunlit tree. Looks good in black and white too.
