Mellon Udrigle's beach has extremely fine grained sand with water leaching through it from the outflow of various peat streams. These disappear beneath the sand and re-emerge near the shore line to form these branching trails through the fine wet sand. I arrived on a winter morning forty minutes or so before sunrise and photographed three distinct tails as they threaded their way to a thunderous horizon with the inky blue snow capped peaks of Inverpolly outlined beneath steely blue clouds. A magical sight.
