Hoar Frost Achanalt

Loch Achanalt, Achnasheen, Scotland

Arctic conditions struck the Torridon area for three days in 2012 and temperatures dropped to record lows of -29 degrees Celcius and below. I managed to access the edge of Loch Achanalt something that can realistically only be done at this time of year because the ice sufficiently freezes the ground. It was a stunning morning with opposing colours of blue and gold and fingers of hoar frosted grass a couple of inches thick.

NEW!! Photographic workshops and masterclasses and the 2014 Transient Light Calendars are now available at TRANSIENT LIGHT
