Autumn Loch Urr

Loch Urr, Glencoe, Scotland

This little lochan nestled in the mountains that line Glen Etive goes by the vaguely amusing name of Loch Urr. It is stunning ly beautiful but particularly so during early June and again in early Autumn. The small islands are covered with rhodedendron which means they turn bright pink for two short weeks every year and that colour is intense and opposite in hue to the emerald green slopes of the mountains. During Autumn the palette is gold and this time as you see here the islands stand out in emerald green against orange deer grass and the flaming yellow birch in full regalia.

Lovely colours. Is the water really that brown, or is it all reflection of the hills?
