The standing stones of Lewis are not always a terribly inspiring sight but in the right conditions they certainly do exhibit a primal magic and on this occasion we were lucky enough to experience a great sky and dark clouds glowing with saffron tinged bellys at sunset. I took great care to separate each stone as I knew they would silhouette completely and I wanted to preserve their identity. It amazed me how few viewpoints gave satisfactory separation and a pleasing domed aspect.
