When snow is new and neither too heavy or too sparse then the vegetation is able to show through giving the landscape a little structure and form whilst still providing sufficient reflectance to fill in deep shadow areas and pick up the ambient cast from an overhead sky. From the top of the Gruinard Bay overlook I was greeted with just this situation combined with a gorgeous diffuse sunset that matched the hot and cool colours to gorgeous effect. The foreground rock in blue pointing to the most intense patch of light in the evening sky.
