Painting With Light

Loch Skene, Aberdeenshire, Scotland

Loch Skene was introduced to me by a group of photographers working at Chevron in the city of Aberdeen. On a gorgeous still summer evening we headed down there and skirted the edge of the loch fronted by bushy reeds and then the sun set and the sky duly changed colour in glorious brush strokes of colour. I knew that the relatively long exposures would only serve to emphasise and marinate the existing hues but was concerned with the disparity in brightness of the overall scene. Instead I swung the camera away from the brightest hues permitting the camera and film to operate within a more comfortable dynamic range. The results were most pleasing juxtaposed with the fringe of reeds.

Ooooh, I wondered if we'd see your images from that balmy evening....you have captured the moment perfectly!! The contrast between the sharpness of the foreground reeds and the dreamy water reflecting the muted sunset...perfection :)
