Tied Up

Badacaul, Gairloch, Scotland

I hope that the casual appearance of this shot of two boats waiting for the returning tide at pretty wee Badacaul belies the extraordinary lengths I went to to get the composition you see here. The separation of the two boats the small section of stern intruding on the right that anchors the ropes and finally the separation of the upper boat from the reflection of the island in the water above it. Take my word for it with the proximity of the other boats this was a tough one. The late evening light was devine but I knew it would only last a little while so set up was quite frantic as was shuffling to the final position.

A lovely composition for your trouble. Well done.

I must respectfully disagree with Zane. This is a high impact image with multiple hits. There is contrast / conflict between the two boats, which are tethered together. They are also tethered to a third boat, which creates some ambiguity. All of this is balance against a beautiful background consisting of a mountain and its reflection. There is a lot to hold ones attention. V

It may have been tough, but the result is a cluttered... It's confusing what the primary subject is and it lacks your usual artistic clarity. Sorry.
