This swathe of golden peaty water is a little stream that drains into the red sand bay at Mellon Udrigle and it is my favourite beach in the whole of Scotland. The water always seems to manage to appear vaguely turquoise and often as not there is a brooding cloud formation hanging over the distant peaks of Inverpolly and An Teallach which just serves to emphasise the melodrama of this remarkable place. The pre-dawn light and softly falling rain is responsible for the richness of colour and provides a subtle palette for Velvia film to work its magic.
