Family Tree

Loch a Chroisg, Achnasheen, Scotland.

This wee straggly family of Scots pine at the edge of Loch A Chroisg I have a particular fondness for. The single track road that connected Achnasheen and Kinlochewe had been widened to motorway proportions and I feared it would be the little trees death knell, fortunately not they are still there and on this occasion there was a thick freezing fog and two inches of hoar frost covering everything. A pretty special day and it looked so much better in black and white.

NEW!! Photographic workshops and masterclasses at TRANSIENT LIGHT.

Ian, I've enjoyed your Loch a'Chroisg images in particular because it's a favourite location for me too (although I cannot photograph it as you do). Just wanted to say congratulations for achieving the Highly Commended award in the Landscape Photographer of the Year competition with this shot. If I'd had my way this would have been the winner.

Wow, this looks like an IR image. That's a lot of frost.

I like the way you composed it to show the starkness of the scene.
