These extraordinary spiky grasses turn fiery red for about two weeks in mid November after that they turn maroon and stay that way until the spring replacement of green shoots. This is its absolute peak and required a few trips to the moor to check on progress. On this occasion a sharp frost nestled in the lee of the hills and reflected the blue of a laser clear sky providing the perfect hot/cold juxtaposition that I craved.
