Rhue Skylight

Rhue, Ullapool, Scotland.

Rhue Lighthouse on the outskirts of Ullapool is not a particularly grand example but it is certainly sited in an exquisitely beautiful position. It gets great west coast sunsets with mountain ranges either side of the bay and a foreground of some of the brightest orange lichen encrusted rocks imaginable. On this occasion I had a simply magnificent sky but the sun would have caused flare. realising that the dome of the lighthouse had a translucent red glass top I opted to hide the setting sun behind it removing the problem of flare and enabling me to hold detail in the sky while light shone through the red glass of the lens housing. It amounted to a fine shot that echoed my memory of the evening.
