Takumatsu is on the Island of Shikoku. Although it is quite a long way from Kyoto, it is a reasonable day trip via Shinkansen rail to Okayama and then by local rail to Takumatsu and return. Although Ritsurin is not one of the "Top Three" gardens in Japan our guide book said it would be a worthy contender. We were not disappointed.
