Kanazawa is an attractive city on the Sea of Japan coast of central Honshu. It is justly famed for its beautiful handicrafts includng lacquerware, gold leaf, porcelain, pottery, silk dyeing amongst others. Kanazawa's top tourist attraction is the Kenroku-en garden (ranked one of the top three in Japan). A short walk from Kenroku-en we visited the impressive Ishikawa-mon gate and remains of the Kanazawa-jo castle.
