As newcomers to this country, we were amazed that this rocky landscape could grow anything. Growing media mainly consists of sand, decomposed sandstone and cracks in the rocks. Some of the "soil" looks like brick-layers sand. In spite of that, the country supports an amazing variety of wild flowers, trees and shrubs.
